Scotland Days 3 four & 5

DAY THREE

Up bright and early again, we made our way to meet our tour guide to begin our day. We were doing a full day tour to Loch Ness  through the Scottish Highlands. We were super excited. The whole day our goal was Loch Ness but we made multiple scenic stops throughout the drive. We stopped in Glencoe for some beautiful views and photos. The weather was much chillier in the highlands! Once we got to Loch Ness we had some lunch and then continued to our boat tour of Loch Ness. The water is almost black and so still. The color of the loch water is caused by peat particles floating throughout the Loch. A fun little fact:: there has been countless fake monster sightings and false evidence of its existence. Loch Ness was beautiful! After the boat tour we had some time to get a couple drinks in a local pub. Back to Edinburgh we went to end our day. On the way back we stopped at a popular waterfall for a quick minute. It was a busy day on the road but so glad we did it to get a taste of the highlands. HIGHLY recommend. It was a good taste of the Highlands, I defintly want to go back for a road trip.

DAY FOUR

EDINBURGH CASTLE DAY! We woke up in time to get to the castle before it got busy. What a beautiful day it was. It had rained the night before so the sky was so blue and clear. Honestly, we got so incredibly lucky on the weather throughout this whole trip. The castle sits high on a volcanic rock (known as Castle Rock), more than 250 ft. above the city of Edinburgh. The views of Edinburgh were incredible from the castle. We were able to see the firing of the one o clock gun, which dates back to 1861. This allowed ships to know what the time was. After spending a few hours and having lunch at the castle we headed out to continue our day. As we were walking the Royal Mile something caught my eyes. OWLS. I made my way up and I got to hold a great horned owl. My mind was blown. I was so nervous and felt so blessed to be holding such a gorgeous creature. My husband snapped some amazing photos of me with it. That was such a awesome experience. After, we hiked up Calton Hill and enjoyed the views and then walked around Princes Street Gardens. Lots and lots of walking. At this point my feet needed some rest. We headed to a pub to relax. Dinner and bed was calling our names.

OUR LAST DAY

Goodbyes are never easy. We had one more day left in Edinburgh and we started our morning off with the Mary King Close underground tour. Mary King's Close is a historic close located under buildings on the Royal Mile, in the historic Old Town area. Supposedly it is very haunted from murders and  plague victims who were left to die. Another tour I would recommend! Then we did the climb up Scots Monument. I was proud of my hubs for going to the very top since he has a fear of heights. 287 narrow steps up! What a spectacular view of Edinburgh from the top! After we spent the rest of the day walking around, looking for souvenirs to take home. I collect mugs and we like to get a print from each place we visit. It's become a tradition since Italy. Towards the end of the day we ended up with the view of the castle. I grabbed some ice cream and we sat and just enjoyed our last evening in Edinburgh. We will definitely be back to Scotland. Such a beautiful country, I cant wait to go back one day.
